Begining Knowles’ A Separate Peace
February 1, 2008
Now that we read the Knowles’ short story “Phineas,” you all have a great foundation for the novel A Separate Peace. Many of the items that we explored in our dicussion of the short story will reappear in the novel with even more depth, detail, and development, as well as additional subplots.
Each of you has been assigned a question to help guide your reading of the novel. It will be the prompt you will be expected answer in an essay after completing the reading.
-
How does Gene perceive his relationship with Finny? How is that in conflict with Finny’s feelings about the relationship?
-

Additionally, you will be keeping a double-entry journal rooted in the point of view of the appropriate character, based on your prompt question. Using the journal, you will track evidence that helps you address the above prompt. You need a minimum of 15 journal entries, to complete the double-entry journal assignment.
